Push-Lock Hose Barb Joiner, -12 AN to -12 AN, Black

Joins two lengths of -12 AN push-lock hose.

The Racetronix FIT-PLJ1212 is a double-barbed push-lock joiner. It splices two lengths of RBPL-12B -12 AN push-lock hose. The hose pushes onto each barb and holds without hose clamps.

Key features

  • End A: barb for -12 AN push-lock hose.
  • End B: barb for -12 AN push-lock hose.
  • 6061-T6 aluminum, black anodized.
  • No hose clamps needed. Clamp recommended above 70°C (158°F).
Push-lock hose and fuel

Many hose suppliers recommend rubber hose for fuel because push-lock and other rubber hose ends are easier to put on and the hose costs less. We don't, and that goes for every brand of CPE-lined rubber hose, push-lock or braided, ours included: it is the nature of the material, not the maker.

CPE liners deteriorate over time with the solvents and ethanol in today's fuels. Some race fuels oxygenated with MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether), or carrying other additives, can make the liner swell and narrow the bore like a clogged artery, or turn it soft and jelly-like. Pieces can then break off and plug injector filter baskets, fuel filters and the filter sock on the fuel pump.

Rubber hose is also permeable: fuel vapour escapes through it, which is why you smell fuel around a parked vehicle, and standard rubber and CPE hose is not CARB compliant. That is a large part of why carmakers moved away from rubber fuel hose in the late 1990s and early 2000s. CARB-compliant low-permeation hoses do exist, but they use specialized liners such as FKM (Viton) and usually cost more per foot than PTFE.

PTFE is a different material altogether: it resists these fuels and additives and is essentially impermeable to fuel and most solvents. (We do not sell it as CARB certified: certification applies to a tested, finished hose assembly, and ours are assembled by the customer.) For fuel lines, use our conductive-lined PTFE hose with PTFE hose ends. Push-lock hose is a good choice for oil, coolant, vacuum, breather and boost lines.

About this cross-reference. We compiled these equivalent part numbers from the manufacturers’ published catalogs and websites, and we update them when we can. We have not fitted or tested other brands’ parts with ours. Please check the hose size, bore and end type against your application before you order, or email [email protected] and we’ll help. Frequently asked questions

Is it E85 compatible?

The joiner is: it is 6061-T6 aluminum, black anodized. The push-lock hose it goes on has a CPE rubber liner, which is rated for E85, but the real question is for how long. For an E85 fuel system, use PTFE hose and PTFE hose ends.

Can I use push-lock hose for fuel?

We do not recommend any brand of rubber hose for fuel, push-lock included. CPE liners deteriorate over time with ethanol and solvents, some race fuels with MTBE and other additives can make them swell or turn jelly-like and shed pieces into filters and injectors, and rubber hose lets fuel vapour through (it is not CARB compliant). For fuel lines, use our conductive PTFE hose, which is essentially impermeable to fuel, with PTFE hose ends.

Do I need a hose clamp?

Push-lock barbs hold the hose without a clamp. Where the temperature exceeds 70°C (158°F), we recommend adding a clamp.

How do I put the hose on?

Cut the hose square with a sharp knife or hose cutter. Push it straight onto the barb, with a twisting motion if needed, until the hose end reaches the shoulder at the base of the barb. A little light oil on the barb makes it easier.

Can I use it with braided rubber or PTFE hose?

No. Push-lock fittings are made for push-lock hose only. Braided rubber hose takes reusable or crimp rubber hose ends, and PTFE hose takes PTFE hose ends.
