F98 Fuel Pump Kit HP 1998 RXP255
1998 Camaro & Firebird LS1 Complete HD Fuel Pump Kit
Everything from the Battery to the Pump — 255 L/hr Pump Included
Item #: RFPK-028
Fits 1998 only. Camaro, Firebird and Trans Am with the LS1 engine and the factory metal tank / swing-arm open hanger. This kit is built to the 1998 bulkhead and hanger interface and is not interchangeable with 1999–2002 F-body fuel systems.

Product Overview
The factory fuel pump feed on the 1998 LS1 F-body was never sized for a high-output pump. Push more current through that undersized wiring and you lose voltage at the pump — and voltage lost at the motor is flow and pressure lost at the rail, exactly when the engine needs it most.
This is the complete fix, battery to pump, in one kit — and it includes the pump. A genuine Racetronix RXP 255 L/hr in-tank pump feeds through a fused, relayed 10 AWG power path, a sealed bulkhead pass-through, and a matched in-tank harness, so the pump sees full system voltage under load.
Just as important is what this kit protects: the fuel-level sender reference ground is kept fully isolated end to end. Sharing the sender return with pump ground is what corrupts the fuel gauge reading on these cars — this kit keeps them separate the way the factory intended, so upgrading your pump doesn't cost you an accurate gauge.
Kit Contents
| Qty | Component | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Fuel Pump | ||
| 1 | FPA-002A | Racetronix RXP 255 L/hr turbine in-tank pump (nominal 225 L/hr at 58 PSI, 13.5 V), red-anodized T6 billet assembly with a 30-micron filter sock and factory-style non-kinking outlet tube. Arrives with a pre-installed in-tank pigtail that is removed during installation — the kit's ITWH-058 is used in its place (see Installation Notes). |
| Wiring System | ||
| 1 | FPWH-028 | Chassis fuel pump wiring harness — sealed weatherproof relay and fused 10 AWG power feed, battery to bulkhead. |
| 1 | IPH-002HD | Intermediate pump harness, 36" — four-conductor with a dedicated, isolated fuel-level sender reference ground. Includes the brass ground-stud mounting hardware (screw, nuts, washers). |
| 1 | BCA-4W | Bulkhead connector assembly, plus two violet sender flying leads with inline 150-series connector bodies and a terminal pick tool for transferring your factory sender terminals. |
| 1 | ITWH-058 | In-tank harness, 12", with the Sumitomo/Tyco-style pump connector to match the included 255 L/hr pump. |
| Power & Ground Hardware | ||
| 1 | BGC-8 | Body ground cable, 8". |
| 2 | GMBT-B | Brass battery terminal nuts. |
| 1 | PBIC-001 | Pump booster interface connector set. |
Kits are bagged from individually stocked components. The sender connector bodies are supplied loose with the pick tool so you can transfer your factory sender terminals without opening the sealed bulkhead connector. Supplying your own pump? The four wiring components are also sold on their own as the FPWK-028W wiring kit.
Engineering Specifications
- Pump included — Racetronix RXP turbine in-tank pump, 255 L/hr nameplate (nominal 225 L/hr at 58 PSI, 13.5 V), supports up to 600 HP at 58 PSI and E85-enhanced fuels.
- 10 AWG copper on the full power and ground path, battery to pump.
- 630-series sealed fuse holder with an ATC blade fuse — 25 A for the 255 L/hr pump.
- Sealed weatherproof relay, 280-series, with a PCM-safe pull-to-ground trigger.
- Isolated sender reference ground — the fuel-level circuit never shares a return with pump ground, so the gauge stays accurate.
- No solder joints — ultrasonically welded splices and sealed connectors throughout for underhood and in-tank durability.
Installation Notes
Important — remove the pump's pre-installed in-tank harness. The pump arrives with a factory-style in-tank pigtail already plugged in. Unplug it from the pump and set it aside; it is not used with this kit. Connect the pump using the kit's ITWH-058 instead.
This matters: the pre-installed pigtail ties the fuel-level sender ground back into the pump ground. Using it would undo the isolated sender ground that keeps your fuel gauge accurate — the whole reason for this kit.
You transfer the two factory fuel-level sender terminals into the supplied inline connector bodies — no crimping and no need to open the sealed bulkhead connector. The sender is a two-wire variable resistor with no polarity, so either supplied lead can go to either sender wire.
Pump ground bonds at the brass through-hat stud on its own dedicated conductor; the stud mounting hardware is supplied. Tank removal, hanger service, fuel-pressure relief and the pump prime cycle are vehicle-service steps — follow the factory service manual or a Chilton/Haynes guide for your car.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this fit a 1999 or newer F-body?
No. This kit is specific to the 1998 model-year bulkhead and hanger. The 1999–2002 cars use a different fuel system and need a different kit.
Does the kit include the fuel pump?
Yes. A genuine Racetronix RXP 255 L/hr in-tank pump is included — this is a complete kit, not wiring only.
Is this a 255 or a 225 L/hr pump?
Both figures describe the same pump. The RXP turbine is rated 255 L/hr free-flow; run at the F-body's 58 PSI base pressure it delivers a nominal 225 L/hr at 13.5 V. Higher pressure means lower flow — that's expected, not a downgrade.
My fuel gauge went erratic after a past pump swap. Will this help?
Yes. The most common cause is the sender ground being tied to pump ground. This kit keeps the sender reference ground isolated end to end, which is how the factory circuit avoids that error.
The pump already has an in-tank harness on it — do I use that?
No. Unplug the pre-installed pigtail from the pump and set it aside, then connect the pump with the kit's ITWH-058. The pre-installed harness is wired for the older shared-ground layout; using it would defeat the isolated sender ground this kit provides.
Do I have to open the sealed bulkhead connector?
No. Your factory sender terminals transfer into the supplied inline connectors using the included pick tool, leaving the sealed connector untouched.
Can I run a larger pump, like a 450 or 525?
Not with this kit. RFPK-028 is built around the 255 L/hr pump. Higher-flow pumps draw more current and use the HD relay and a different in-tank harness — contact sales for the right kit.
