GM In-Tank Fuel Pump Harness HD 12" – Metri-Pack 280 Pump Connector
Tank-side wiring for GM metal “pump on a stick” hangers, from our BCA-4W bulkhead to Walbro 450 and 525 pumps and other 300+ LPH pumps with Metri-Pack 280 flying leads.
What this harness does
High-output pumps draw more current than the factory in-tank wiring and bulkhead were built to carry. In a Racetronix pump-on-a-stick kit, the pump power feed is split into two 14 AWG conductors that pass through the BCA-4W bulkhead in parallel. This harness carries both conductors to the pump and joins them at its positive terminal, for a combined rating of 28 A.
It also gives the pump a dedicated high-current ground. A separate 14 AWG leg runs from the pump’s negative terminal to a 1/4" ring terminal that bolts to a brass stud through the hanger top, so the ground no longer depends on the bulkhead alone. The black wire through the bulkhead stays in place as a second ground path, and the violet lead carries the fuel level sender signal.
All wiring is Teflon or Tefzel insulated copper, rated 600 V, for continuous use submerged in fuel.
Pump compatibility
The connector on your pump decides which in-tank harness you need. Check it before you order.

Parts this harness works with
If you are buying this harness on its own, your installation also needs:
| Part | What it does |
|---|---|
| BCA-4W bulkhead connector | Replaces the factory bulkhead pass-through. This harness plugs into its tank side. |
| IPH-3W intermediate harness | Connects the relay harness to the outside of the BCA-4W and picks up the brass-stud ground. Available as the IPH-3W12, IPH-3W18, IPH-3W36 and IPH-3W48 (12", 18", 36" and 48"). |
| BHSK-14B brass stud kit | The 1/4" brass stud through the hanger top that this harness’s ground leg bolts to. |
| Racetronix fuel pump relay harness | Supplies the relay-switched power feed, such as the FPWH-029 for GM SUV and pickup hangers. |
Complete kits that include this harness
| Kit | Vehicle |
|---|---|
| FPWK-029D | 1980s and 1990s GM SUVs and pickups with metal pump-on-a-stick hangers |
| FPWK-035 | 1985–1992 Camaro and Firebird (TPI) |
| FPWK-043D | 1984–1988 Corvette |
| FPWK-044D | 1989–1996 Corvette |
Our LT1 F-body (FPWK-033HD) and LS1 (FPWK-028) kits use different in-tank harnesses built for those hangers.
Wiring and pinout
Bulkhead end (tank side of the BCA-4W)
| Cavity | Wire | Gauge | Connects to |
|---|---|---|---|
| E | Blue | 14 AWG | Pump positive (+) |
| C | Red | 14 AWG | Pump positive (+) |
| D | Black | 14 AWG | Pump negative (-) |
| B | Violet | 16 AWG | Fuel level sender (flying lead) |
The cavity letters on the outside and tank side of the BCA-4W do not match one-for-one: outside A connects to tank-side E, B to D, C to C, and D to B. Always work from the letters on the connector itself.
Pump end
| Cavity | Pump terminal | Wires |
|---|---|---|
| A | Positive (+) | Red and blue |
| B | Negative (-) | Black, plus the ground leg to the brass stud |
Ground leg left off. Bolt this harness’s ring terminal to the brass stud on the underside of the hanger top, and the IPH ground ring terminal to the same stud on top. The factory ground path does not apply to this system.
Bulkhead letters misaligned. Fitting the BCA-4W retention clip rotated can misalign the cavity letters. Check each wire against its cavity letter after the clip is installed.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need the ITWH-042 or the ITWH-043?
Match the connector on your pump. A Tyco-type 2-pin connector takes the ITWH-042. A Metri-Pack 280 connector on flying leads, as on Walbro 450 and 525 pumps, takes the ITWH-043. The two harnesses are otherwise identical.
My pump is a “DCSS” pump. Is that a connector type?
No. DCSS describes Walbro’s dual-turbine pump design, not its connector. Walbro DCSS pumps such as the 450 and 525 use a Metri-Pack 280 connector on flying leads and take the ITWH-043.
Can I plug it into my factory bulkhead or in-tank wiring?
No. It plugs only into the BCA-4W, which replaces the factory bulkhead. The factory bulkhead and in-tank wiring can’t carry the current this system is built for.
Will it work with my factory GM pump?
No. The factory Delphi pump uses a unique Metri-Pack 150 connector limited to 16 AWG wire, and there is no benefit to hotwiring a stock pump.
Will it fit a plastic fuel pump module?
No. It is for GM/Delphi metal “pump on a stick” hangers only. Late-model plastic modules use different bulkhead connectors.
I’m changing to a Walbro 255 or Racetronix RXP pump. What do I change?
On a hanger already wired with one of our kits, replace this harness with the ITWH-042. The BCA-4W, IPH and relay harness stay in place. Fit the correct fuse for the new pump in your relay harness.
Do I have to drill the hanger?
Yes. The brass ground stud needs a clean 1/4" hole in a flat area of the hanger top, with enough flat surface above and below for the stud hardware and ring terminals. Stay clear of the formed rim. If you are buying this harness on its own, add the BHSK-14B brass stud kit.
