ATC (Automotive Technology Closed) and ATO (Automotive Technology Open) are industry-interchangeable designations for standard-sized automotive blade fuses. They share identical physical dimensions, blade spacing, and current-rating color codes. Littelfuse utilizes shared high-precision mold tooling across its standard blade product lines (including Series 257 and modern ISO 8820-3 compliant 287/ATOF series), which carry hard-tooled "257" identification stamps on current-production stock.
Environmental Protection & Weatherproofing Best Practices:
In high-humidity environments or vehicles stored long-term, potential corrosion occurs where the metal terminal blades insert into the socket clips (regardless of whether the plastic housing bottom is open or closed). Protection varies by environmental demands:
- Standard Vehicle Installations: Most OEM fuse blocks feature covered or shrouded plastic housings designed to shield against indirect splashes and road debris.
- Unsealed / High-Humidity Storage: For unsealed fuse holders or vehicles sitting in damp environments, applying a light coating of dielectric silicone grease directly to the fuse blades forms an airtight seal at the contact points to eliminate terminal corrosion.
- Severe-Duty / Exposed Installations: For extreme environments or open engine bays, upgrade to a fully weather-sealed Power Distribution Module (PDM) equipped with a silicone cover gasket and individual silicone wire cable seals for total environmental isolation.
