Fuel Pump – Walbro 450, E85 Turbine HP+ (F90000274)

Walbro’s high-pressure DCSS in-tank pump, OEM-validated for E85.

F90000274 – Walbro 450 E85 Certified HP+

The Walbro / TI Automotive F90000274, known as the Walbro 450, is the bigger brother of the F90000267. It has every feature of the 267 plus a factory-adjusted high-pressure bypass valve, so it holds more flow as pressure rises.

With proper wiring and plumbing upgrades it supports 750+ HP, making it a proven choice for high-horsepower gasoline and E85 builds.

Key features

  • Award-winning Walbro DCSS OE technology.
  • Supports 750+ HP with proper wiring and plumbing upgrades.
  • High-pressure, high-flow performance, with a factory-adjusted high-pressure bypass valve.
  • Integral check valve holds prime and pressure after shutdown and stops back-feeding in dual-pump setups.
  • Outperforms all current market in-tank fuel pumps.
  • OEM technology designed and developed for E85. All pumping components are validated to OEM specifications for approved use in E85 and flex-fuel applications.
  • Walbro technical paper: download the TI Automotive product sheet (PDF).

What’s included

The pump only. Different applications need different filter socks, wiring and mounts, so we don’t bundle them, and the price reflects that. Choose what your build needs from the table below; everything is also listed under Add Ons. Not sure what you need? Email [email protected] with as much detail about your application as you can.

Before you install: wiring and plumbing

Upgrading the wiring is not enough

Many pump-on-a-stick hangers have metal lines that taper or neck down, or bends that are crushed rather than mandrel-bent. Running this pump against that restriction makes it work too hard and wears out its brushes in a very short time. Open up or replace restrictive hanger lines when you upgrade the wiring.

TI Automotive does not warranty its high-performance pumps, and this is one of the main reasons: pumps installed in older vehicles with restrictive lines and inadequate wiring. Do your homework on plumbing and power before you install.

In-tank hose, tube and clamps

Inside the tank, connect the pump outlet with one of these two options only:

OptionUseClamp with
SAE J30R10 submersible hoseOur RH-30R10 series FKM/aramid E85 hose, typically RH-30R1056 (5/16" ID) or RH-30R1038 (3/8" ID)German-style 304 stainless gear clamps: GCLMPSS-16 in most cases, or GCLMPSS-12 on smaller hose
Nylon fuel tubeOur nylon fuel feed tubes with a 10 mm end for the pumpOetiker single-ear clamps: OCLMP12.8 or OCLMP13.3

For the inlet, any of our 11 mm ID filter socks will fit; choose one to suit the depth and shape of your tank.

Frequently asked questions

Will this pump fit my factory pump hanger?

It depends on the hanger. On older GM open-style “pump on a stick” hangers (the metal hangers), use our SPM-DCSS pedestal mount with a PMG-002 grommet. The SPM-DCSS replaces the factory pump mount that is welded to the bottom of the return tube. It is not designed for cantilever hangers that pivot, such as the F-body type, or for hangers with plastic modules or buckets. If you’re unsure which hanger you have, email [email protected] with your vehicle details before you order.

Can I use my factory wiring?

No. The F90000274 draws about 17.1 A at 58 PSI (13.5 V), well beyond what most factory pump circuits carry. Racetronix offers many plug-and-play harnesses properly configured for GM applications; check for one that fits your vehicle before choosing a universal harness. If there isn’t one, the FPWH-009HD universal HD relay harness is the alternative. Use E85-rated in-tank wiring such as the ITWH-039 as well.

What connector does the pump use?

The pump terminals take a Metri-Pack 280 connector. The ITWH-039 in-tank harness plugs straight onto the pump with Teflon-insulated leads for connection to your hanger.

Should I choose this or the Walbro 525 (F90000285)?

If 750+ HP covers your build, the F90000274 does it on less current: about 391 LPH at 17.1 A at 58 PSI. The F90000285 has a more powerful motor for about 429 LPH at 58 PSI and 900+ HP, but draws about 18.7 A.

Is it E85 compatible?

Yes. All pumping components are validated to OEM specifications for E85 and flex-fuel use. Pair it with E85-rated wiring, seals and filter socks.

Can I run two pumps?

Yes. The integral check valve stops fuel from back-feeding through an idle pump, so two pumps can run together or staged. We also offer the TI-TCA955 dual assembly with two F90000274 pumps.

Should I use a voltage booster?

Racetronix recommends an alternator voltage booster for all of its fuel pump systems. In-line pump boosters such as the Kenne Bell Boost-A-Pump are not recommended.

Which filter sock do I need?

It depends on the depth and shape of your tank. Any of our 11 mm ID filter socks will fit; they are also listed in the parts table above and under Add Ons.

Can I mount this pump outside the tank?

Not on its own; it is an in-tank, submersible pump. For an external install, the RXP450LE seals this same pump inside a billet in-line housing with AN ports.

What hose can I use inside the tank?

Only SAE J30R10 submersible hose, such as our RH-30R10 series, or nylon fuel tube. Ordinary fuel hose is not rated for submersion and will break down in the tank. Clamp J30R10 hose with German-style stainless gear clamps and nylon tube with Oetiker ear clamps.

Why do these pumps fail early in some vehicles?

Almost always restriction or low voltage. Tapered hanger lines, crushed non-mandrel bends and undersized lines make the pump work too hard and burn out its brushes quickly, and weak factory wiring starves it of voltage. Upgrade both the plumbing and the wiring before you run it.

Is the pump covered by a warranty?

No. TI Automotive (Walbro) does not warranty its high-performance pumps, and Racetronix cannot offer a warranty on them either. See the warranty section below.
